5Lots of fun!May 29, 2004
By Marcy Gomez
We got this CD even before we saw the movie "Shrek 2." My kids - ages 3 and 6 - love this soundtrack and we listen to it constantly in the car. Their favorite tracks are "Livin La Vida Loca" and "Holding Out For A Hero." I personally enjoy "Accidentally In Love," "Funkytown" (which brings back memories of when I was a kid myself) and the other upbeat songs.

This is a must have for those who enjoyed the movie. And unlike the first film's soundtrack, it is appropriate for all age groups and can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. Donkey and Puss In Boots rousing duet is a definite crowd pleaser. Highly recommended!

5Fun for all!May 06, 2004
By Crystal Ray
The Shrek 2 soundtrack is just as good as the sound track from the first movie. There are great songs for the whole family. Mom loves it for the songs that I remember from my younger days and my kids will like it for the humor and the fun quirky songs that are included as well. This is a great soundtrack for carting the kids around town or for roadtrips. I am sure that this is going to be the one my kids request the most in the future!

5Something to sing to...Jun 01, 2004

I saw the movie a few days ago, and bought the soundtrack immediately afterwards. All the songs from the movie are on the CD including a bar song "sung" by Captian Hook and a playful verison of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero". As with the first CD, the song Donkey(Eddie Murphy) sings at the end is included, this time accompanied by Antonio Banderas(Puss in Boots) Livin' La Vida Loca! A great cd all together and lots of fun to bounce the car with and have neighbor cars looking at you like your insane. ^-^

4Not just for the kidsSep 10, 2005
By Barbara J. Riley
My kids (ages 8 and 5) loved both Shrek movies, and for that matter, so did I; they did a great job of making the films enjoyable for the little ones, but humorous enough to engage us grown-ups, too. Fortunately, they were able to carry that over to both soundtracks.

I find that even after I've dropped off the kids at school when we were listening to this CD in the car, I'll keep it running for a while longer because I like the songs, myself.

Weirdly enough, I really liked the re-makes of Holding Out For A Hero (Frou Frou's version, not Jennifer Saunders') and Changes. I still love the original Holding Out best (from Footloose, you guys remember that? Or am I dating myself too much...?), but this funky version grew on me somehow. And Changes is fabulous, I'm sorry to see some of the other reviewers disliked it so much. The original is good, of course, but this one is also good; the singer has really good stylings, and her voice quality blends well with David Bowie's. (He sings with her on it, you know. So if he gave his personal stamp of approval, enough to perform it with her, then you gotta know it meets some pretty darned high standards there.)

"I Need Some Sleep" is another good song. It was such a powerful supplement to its scene in the movie, I can still feel the imprint of the feelings that scene conveyed even when hearing the song alone months later.

The only song I really can't stand is "A Little Drop of Poison," as it sounds like it belongs on a low-budget cartoon somewhere. Preferably locked in the cupboard never to see the light of day.

Aside from the songs I've already mentioned that I liked, there wasn't much on here for me to get excited about (what IS the big deal about Jennifer Saunders?), but it's such a nice alternative to the other kid-targeted music out there. This CD is one we can all listen to happily.

4A good, solid mix of tunes.Jun 27, 2004
By Tabbyclaw
The best part about this CD is that it's exactly what it claims to be: a soundtrack. Not a "Best of" or "Selections from" collection, but a soundtrack that leaves nothing out. It captures the film's personality expertly.

And what a personality it is! This is an album that runs the gamut of emotions, from the cheerful groove of "Funkytown" and the driving energy of "Holding Out for a Hero" to the brooding "People Ain't No Good" and the outright desperation of "I Need Some Sleep." The individual songs are idiosyncratic, and taken as a whole package they're a step away from your everyday soundtrack. The much-praised single "Accidentally in Love" actually suffers compared to the rest of the album, becoming the bland pop love song amidst a sea of colorful tunes.

The decision to include the "in-character" music was definitely the right one -- from the moment I walked out of the theater I knew that my decision to buy the sountrack would hinge on the inclusion of Jennifer Saunders' version of "Holding Out For A Hero" -- but while the end of the film was a riot to watch, as a song "Livin' La Vida Loca" is showing its age. I don't feel that this is something you can blame the album for, though.

Overall, this is a great CD and a worthy addition to your collection. The only reason I knocked off one star is that there are one or two songs that have yet to grow on me. Normally I wouldn't be so harsh about it, but when the rest of the CD grabbed me so intently that gap is hard to bridge.
