5Excellent Feel, Super ResponsiveApr 01, 2008
By Plain Old Gamer
I cannot stress how good the button response is for this controller. You press a button and the game is responding now. In my opinion, this controller is superior to the snes stock controller even without the autofire feature.

Autofire just happens to be timed on this pad to allow you to use the bombing technique on Super Metroid (where you lay bombs to lift yourself into the air).

What I found useful was the A,B,X,Y buttons are very slightly more spread out than the official snes controller. This is very useful if you ever need to simulatiously press the X and B buttons (or Y and A).

One of the best contollers I have ever used.

5UN SQUADRON doesn't stand a chance.Nov 19, 2007

what are all of those switches, you ask? That's a AUTOFIRE feature. Instead of banging on the button to shoot like some sort of caveman, this controller lets you either set it to bang-bang-bang with a button hold (second position), or go pressless with the 3rd position. The A, B, X, Y, L, R and even the start button is represented.

It's a little heavier than the stock controller, and has 99% of the awesome button response that the SNES had. I used a standard controller for the depressed buttons when I'm playing Chrono Trigger/non-arcade games, but for an arcade game, there's nothing better.

And in SF2, going a lightning kick, hundred hand slap, or electricity just got a lot easier.

5Indispensable for RPG afficionadosDec 14, 2010
By James Bartholomew Hamster
The role-playing genre is one that is unique in that one of its most easily-identifiable mechanical traits -- the random encounter -- is at once considered a feature and a vexation by those who play them. For players who have long been fans of the genre, a good deal of the moment-to-moment thrill comes from the knowledge that the next step could lead to an unexpected and life-threatening scrum. At the same time, anyone who has spent the requisite dozens of hours necessary to get through a full-scale RPG epic like a Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior knows that at least half of that time is spent in combat with a steady sequence of imps, goblins, and myriad beasts of the wild. While the modern RPG player is more than willing to invest his or her time in a piece of entertainment that is intellectually engaging, when a game requires the player to stay mentally engaged through experiences that are essentially toil, the value of the endeavour becomes rather strained.

This is where this handy little device comes in. For games where most random encounters can be bested with the repeated application of the "Bash" attack (read: most SNES RPGs), the single-button approach is almost always sufficient. The AsciiPad takes this burden from human hands and allows players to tune in on the interesting parts of gameplay. Simply toggle the Turbo on the "Input command" button and go about questing, exploring the environment as you would normally: when a battle crops up, you can just look away and the controller will keep fighting for you; look back up when the victory theme sounds and you can resume your explorations -- a few EXP the richer and a few HP the poorer, but otherwise unbothered by the experience. I cannot say how many of my childhood games I have been able to revisit and see to completion as a result of having the grind of combat fade into the background.

On top of its uses, this product is durable, too: my father bought our AsciiPad some fifteen years ago from a Funcoland catalogue (Remember Funcoland? No? Well, that shows you how old it is.) Only after fifteen years of hard and constant use are some of the switches starting to erode in their toggle detection. I can say with confidence that when my pad's functionality finally degrades to the point where it becomes unusable, I will definitely be buying another.

5The Pad Works!Aug 14, 2009
By J. Freeman "Singing Young Man"
It works great! I love the fact that with the slide of a button you can have your character go turbo. This means that if you have to keep keep pressing a button to use a sword then you slide the right switch and the sword will keep going and going until you slide the switch again back to normal. I would recommend this product to any super nintendo owner.

The controller I got was used but it looks new. Maybe I got lucky. It was worth the price and it gives me no trouble.
